DIY- Organise your work space!!!

Hi,
The key to success is having a place to work that motivates you and encourages you to do your best.
We have put together a list of easy things you can do to improve your work space (and hopefully the quality of your work.)

First lets take a look at the two main parts of any work space.
1. Desk
The desk is really the most important part of the work space. You wouldn't be able to do anything without it. There isn't really a desk that will suit everyone, as we all have different requirements of our work spaces. Some things to consider when choosing your desk, or re-doing your current one are; the size you require, the amount of storage you need and the colour/ style that will suit your room (remember that it is best to choose a neutral desk top and add colour in the accessories).

2. The Chair
Nothing is worse than sitting down to do something and immediately wanting to get back  up because  the chair you are sitting on is so uncomfortable! Some things that you may want to consider are; the height of the chair, any cushions that you may want to put on the chair and a colour/ style that matches or complements the desk and the other features of the room.

Now that we have got the basics of the area lets look at some decorations;
1. Pictures and frames
Pictures and frames are a great way to customise a space. They add personality to the area and inspire you to work. Make sure that you don't overcrowd a surface with pictures, but if you need you could always hang some up on the wall (see 'Polaroid Wall' coming soon) or have a photo album sitting near you. Another great idea is a digital photo frame which cycles through images, similar to a slide show, this is a great way to display photos from holidays or just display a lot of photos, without taking up all the space you have.

2. Plants
Plants add colour and life to a space. They can be a lot of work to keep but really rewarding! Again, make sure that you don't overcrowd valuable surface space, this will have the reverse effect to what we are aiming for. Adding a nice pot can also enhance a space.

Next lets look at organisation!
1. A whiteboard or pin board
A white board or pin board can be the easiest way to organise you thoughts and remind yourself of important things. Have a look at 'DIY -Organise with Washi' for more ways to use whiteboards.

2.Keep your desk clean
It is so annoying when you have to clean your desk before you can use it- you want to get the work you have to do done as fast as possible. Make sure that you have some storage space near your desk- draws or shelves work well- and keep the pens/pencils and electronics to a minimum. Clean out draws regularly so that you can keep them  current and always have room for your next project.

We hope  this post has inspired you to give your desk a clean out this weekend. We plan to create a series of posts similar to this one with tips and tricks to organise your life! Keep watching for the next post in the series.
