DIY- Create a holiday journal...

Hi All,
It's C here. January, here in Australia it is summer and the school holidays, so really it is the perfect time for a holiday. Holidays are so much fun and you will want to treasure the memories you make forever. Many people collect photos, tickets, and other small items meaning to put together a memory book when they return home, but it never gets done. Using this method it is quick and easy to begin your journal while you are still on holidays- so you can show people as soon as you return home.

Materials-
A A5 or A5 sized decomposition book (or similar notebook). A4 sized is better if you have larger items to journal. We use a A4.

A set of scrapbooking cards. These are themed cards that come in various styles and sizes, choose the style that best fits your holiday and the size that will work best with your sized journal. We use project life cards, mostly in small sizes but some larger ones may be useful.

Scrapbooking dots or a glue stick.

Pens. We used various sized black pens and  blue and turquoise markers.

Method
1. Before you set out choose a card to stick on the front of the notebook. Glue it on and then cover the book with contact to protect it. Here are two examples of the different ways you could decorate your cover.

2. When on holiday keep some items (tickets, wristbands) and be sure to take lots of photos. Polaroid photos look amazing in these books and are much easier as you don't have to print them but you could also print your photos as you go or leave space and stick them in when you return. Also find some  cards that fit in with your items (I like to use blank ones and write something about the day on them)
3. Lay your items out on the page (without gluing them) to organise a suitable layout. Remember to leave room for any photos you still have to print.

4. Once you have a layout stick the items to the page- make sure that you stick the corners down well.
5. Decorate the outside of the page (around the photos) here are some ideas from my scrapbook. This is an easy activity that you could begin and finish on the plane trip or car ride home.

This design is a lot of triangles, fill the page with different sized triangles and then colour some in.  Simple
This design (on the left) is simply a piece of 8x8 scrapbook paper stuck on the page. The design on the right is simply every second line coloured in.
The design on the left is lots of small scallop shapes and the one on the right is coloured with markers, the gap at the bottom is space for a photo that hasn't been printed yet.
This design is a collage using 4 pieces of square origami paper.

There you have it- a simple easy way to record your memories while on holidays. Creating a page takes barely 15 minutes.
How do you save your holiday memories?
Have fun creating.
xoxo C
